Sea To Summit have refined lightweight, cold climate sleeping comfort with a mat that combines a lightweight 30/40D Nylon fabric, Exkin Platinum® and THERMOLITE® insulation with a loop baffle Air Sprung Cell™ construction to create a 10cm thick mat with an incredibly low weight.

The looped baffles which connect the top and bottom fabric layers are designed in a way to allow the top and bottom layers to be positioned further apart, creating larger pockets of air when inflated that require less fabric overall - the extra height of this mat lets hips sink deeper into it without touching the ground. The Ether Light XT Insulated Mat features an Ultra-Fresh® anti-microbial treatment to the TPU formula to prevent internal mould growth.

To make inflation and deflation easier Sea to Summit has developed the multi-function valve: The valve integrates an inflate port with a one-way valve to prevent air loss before you seal the valve, a rapid air dump deflate port, and a fine tune button to adjust for comfort, in one compact, low profile unit.

The origins of Sea To Summit began in 1983 in Perth, Western Australia - a time when lightweight, outdoor products were hard to find there. Roland Tyson, a keen climber and adventurer, began making his own gear on an antique sewing machine in his bedroom to meet these needs. In 1990, Australian mountaineer, Tim Macartney-Snape, approached Roland to make gear for his upcoming expedition – an audacious attempt to climb Mt Everest by beginning his ascent at sea level. The gear would need to work at every altitude over several months and be light and durable enough for the 5 month trek.

The expedition was a success and so was the gear and the Sea to Summit brand was born. Decades later, this spirit still defines the them: a company driven by design perfectionism that allows them to develop ingenious, functionally beautiful products with a “no worries” Australian attitude. Their original ethos ‘to equip and inspire’ continues to drive research and development of new techniques, materials, technologies and production methods.
