In 1949, chemist Emanuel Goldberg invented the first plastic pipette jars, founding Nalge Company. In the 60s, his team - many of whom were avid hikers - used these Nalge lab bottles to carry water when backpacking. In the 70s, with growing conservation concerns, Nalge bottles became popular for outdoor activities in the wider outdoor community. Seizing this opportunity, Nalge launched Nalgene Outdoor, marketing their labware as high-quality camping essentials which they still sell to this day.
