The classic guide to foraging food in a particularly handsome 40th anniversary edition. Featuring guides to over 200 types of food that can be picked and gathered in the wild, beautifully illustrated and with high quality photographs throughout.

Originally published in 1972, Food For Free has never been out of print since. Covering everything from identification, collecting, cooking, preparation, history and even folklore. Written with passion and deep knowledge, this edition is a larger and easier to read format, which really lets the imagery and photography inspire a step towards a more self-sufficient lifestyle - or at least a new hobby!

Richard Mabey is the author of some forty books, including the bestselling Flora Britannica, Weeds and Nature Cure, which was short-listed for the Whitbread, Ondaatje and Ackerley awards. ‘Food for Free is a life-enhancing classic. That it is erudite and charming as well as practical and accurate is a testament to Richard Mabey’s great gift as a biographer of our natural heritage. It remains the best possible antidote to the over-processed and the pre-packaged.’
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

‘The forager's bible continues to inspire and enthral.’
